Seriously? Is It Just Me…

Seriously, my body is turning on me.

Posted on: September 29, 2009

Last week, I had the pleasure of discovering that I’ve developed an allergy to poppy seeds (actually the jury is still out on the culprit), despite the fact that I’ve been eating poppy seeds all my life. So of course, upon eating a poppy seed bagel, I was completely shocked when my lip swelled to four times its normal size in less than an hour. Never mind that I had a meeting and a networking event to attend that day as my body decided to severely overreact to my choice of food. WTH? After visiting three doctors, almost overdosing on Benadryl and hiding in my house for over 48 hours, I came to realize that I don’t even know my own body anymore. It’s like she’s turned on me, taken matters into her own hands and seizes every opportunity to remind me that I’m no longer sporting a young resilient body anymore. Just look at the difference 10 years can make:

  1. When I was in my 20’s, I would stay up all night drinking and partying. Now, I find myself staying up all night with indigestion.
  2. When I was in my 20’s, the only aches and pains I felt were from dancing for four hours straight at the club. Now, every day that I wake up some part of body is throbbing in pain and I’ve got a brace on standby for it.
  3. When I was in my 20’s, I wanted to wear glasses strictly for fashion reasons. Now, I want to wear glasses so I can see font sizes under 14 point.
  4. When I was in my 20’s, I would eat whatever I wanted whenever I wanted without gaining a pound. Now, I have to eat dinner with the senior citizens just to give me enough time to burn off the calories before bedtime.
  5. When I was in my 20’s, I would need three hours to bounce back from a hangover. Now, I need about three days to crawl back from a buzz.

Don’t get me wrong, I know that aging is a part of life and I’m actually enjoying the wisdom, experiences and financial stability that come with getting older. However, I’m less than thrilled with the unexpected bodily function break downs that require me to reevaluate my daily routines. Geez, I can hardly wait to discover what my body will decide to do to me once I’m in my 40’s. Seriously?

Seriously too funny!
I can only laugh because I can feel your pain 🙂

I know how you feel about the “new” allergy development. Two years ago I started breaking out in hives at the most random times, with nothing that I could think of linking the events. I go to the doctor for an allergy test, and apparently I have developed a skin allergy to the cold, as in cold temperatures. So, don’t worry, you aren’t the only one going through this.

Thanks Divinem! Interestingly enough, our office A/C was out that day and the doctors even considered that I was allergic to the extreme heat. Who knows? I’m glad you were able to find out what your allergic to. Stay Warm!
